Michael Lehtinen

Director of Southern Park Music School, Instructor of Piano

DMA and MM from the Eastman School of Music; BM from Oberlin Conservatory of Music. Dr. Lehtinen has been teaching at Southern Park Music School since 1995 and has been the Director since 2006. His students participate in festivals and competitions throughout Charlotte and North Carolina. In addition to teaching piano students of all ages, Dr. Lehtinen is the Organist at St. Stephen’s United Methodist Church.

Mary Rose Adkins

Mary Rose Adkins

Instructor of Piano

MA in Music History and BA in Music Education from Marshall University, Huntington, West Virginia.  Mary Rose has over 35 years of teaching experience and has a national certification in teaching piano from MTNA.  She is a frequent adjudicator of piano festivals and is currently on the music staff of Quail Hollow Presbyterian Church where she directs handbells.  Mary Rose plays the recorder and has a collection of handmade recorders, which she uses in performing Renaissance music.

Mark Catoe

Mark Catoe

Instructor of Saxophone and Clarinet

BMusEd from Winthrop University.  Multi-instrumentalist Mark Catoe has been working in the area as a musician for than six years, working as a musician on a cruise ship for two years prior to that. Notable performances include engagements with the Charlotte Symphony, The Temptations, and The Four Tops. In addition to teaching saxophone and clarinet, Mark frequently performs as a jazz pianist for weddings, private parties, and corporate events.

Nata Dolnik

DMA, MM, and BMus from Saradgishvili Conservatory of Georgia, in Tibilisi, Georgia.  Nata has taught students of all ages and trained pianists who have won competitions in the US.  Her greatest joy is sharing her knowledge of basic piano techniques and subtleties of music interpretation to help students expand their knowledge and to reach the highest levels of excellence in musicianship.  As a teacher, Nata is patient, creative, innovative, and confident. She is deeply committed to a high standard and excellent quality of musical education.

Vasily Gorkovoy

Instructor of Violin and Viola

Artist Certificate from Southern Methodist University; MM from Texas Christian University; BMus from Rostov on Don State Conservatory (Don, Russia).  Vasily  performs regularly with the Winston-Salem, Greenville, and Columbia, SC, symphonies.  Vasily likes to include theory in his lessons along with teaching the fundamentals of playing string instruments.

John Herrick

BMusEd from West Chester State University, with additional studies at Westminster Choir College and Temple University. John enjoys working with students of all ages and believes in developing the whole musician by incorporating music theory, music history and life experiences in his lessons.  John is also the Director of Music at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Charlotte and is on the music faculty of Charlotte Latin School.

Shannon F. Johnson

Shannon F. Johnson

Instructor of Piano

BA in piano from UNCC. Shannon has over 10 years of piano teaching experience, is the accompanist for Impromptu vocal ensemble, and frequently substitutes as a church pianist. Shannon enjoys interacting with children and adults of all ages. In lessons, she focuses on blending the curriculum of each student to include both method books and fun, supplementary material.

Jonathan Kaplan

Jonathan Kaplan

Instructor of Brass

MM from Rice University; BM from Arizona State University.  Jon Kaplan currently plays Second Trumpet with the CSO. Prior to joining the orchestra in 2017, Jon performed as a substitute with the Phoenix Symphony, the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, and the New World Symphony.  While in Houston, he taught privately and served as a coach for the Houston Youth Symphony.  Jon attended middle school and high school in Eagle River, Alaska. In his spare time, Jon enjoys playing board games, solving Rubik’s cubes, and other 3Dpuzzles.

Haley Kim

Haley Kim

MM and BM from Temple University.  Haley enjoys playing in ensembles and has worked with the Borealis Music Society as a collaborator, the Atlantic Coast Opera and many other instrumentalists and vocalists. She encourages her students to develop good hand and body posture. She also combines theory and techniques in her lessons to help students make the best of music making.  She is an accompanist at Charlotte Presbyterian Church.

Taddes Korris

Instructor of String Bass

MM and BMus from Manhattan School of Music.  Taddes is a dynamic orchestral, chamber and solo performer of the double bass, performing regularly with the Charlotte Symphony and the Edmonton (Canada) Symphony. Born to a Lithuanian family in Canada, his unique cultural roots have inspired him to seek out and perform lesser-known Eastern European works along with the standard repertoire.  Taddes was the 2012 recipient of the Homer Mensch Award for excellence in double bass performance and study.

Victoria McLaughlin

Victoria McLaughlin

Instructor of Cello

BA from the University of Manizales, in Colombia, South America, and certified Suzuki teacher.  Since her arrival in Charlotte, Victoria has performed with the Charlotte Philharmonic, Charlotte Civic Orchestra, Charlotte Cello Choir, Vivace Quartet, and other groups.  Victoria’s students successfully participate in recitals, festivals, and regional orchestral auditions.  Besides having a contagious enthusiasm for her instrument, Victoria blends her more than 10 years of cello teaching experience with high standards and the conviction that, yes, "Every child - and adult – can!"

Charles J. Michael

Charles J. Michael

Instructor of Brass

BMusEd from Appalachian State University.  CJ teaches lessons on all brass instruments in all styles. His specialties include concert band and orchestral repertoire as well as small ensemble music. His students have consistently placed well in the All-District bands and county band competitions. With the belief that exposure to many different  styles creates well-rounded players,  CJ encourages his students to search for music that they enjoy playing while instilling firm technical ability, high levels of musicality, and efficient practicing techniques. CJ regularly performs Principal Horn for the Charlotte Civic Orchestra, Charlotte Concert Band, and the Charlotte Pride Band.

DMA and MM from Louisiana State University.  BMusEd from Ouachita Baptist University.  Gay has taught piano, organ, theory, and music appreciation in several universities.  She has been a church pianist or organist for most of her life.  Gay especially enjoys working with the families at Southern Park Music School.

Brian Sapp-Moore

MM and BMus from East Carolina University. Brian is Organist/Choirmaster at All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Concord and also enjoys working in musical theater productions. Brian recently completed level one certification in The American Orff-Schulwerk Association.  Brian encourages his students to experience performing through participation in student recitals and festivals.

Ph.D. from Florida State University, School of Music; Master of Music from the University of Michigan; Bachelor of Science from Ithaca College, NY.  Most recently, Lenore taught children and adults in the Academy of Music at St. Francis in the Fields, Louisville (2009-2015) and served as President of the Greater Louisville Music Teachers Association (2009-2013).  She loves to teach and tailors lessons to encourage the development of each student’s musical potential. She incorporates music theory and music history as appropriate in every lesson.

BA, University of North Carolina at Charlotte; BM, Appalachian State University. Candace plays the oboe, flute, and English horn.  She is an Adjunct Instructor of Music at Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs. Candace enjoys performing with the Charlotte Civic Orchestra and with the Charlotte Flute Choir. She is especially thrilled when a student catches her passion for the oboe!

MM and BMus from Michigan State University.  Sharon has 40 years of piano teaching experience.  She has previously taught middle school and high school choral music, AP Music Theory, and AP Music History.  In addition to teaching, Sharon has been a church music director and accompanist.   Sharon enjoys teaching beginners very much as well as students who are more advanced.

MA, Gordon-Conwell Seminary; BM, Texas Christian University.  Margaret is a soprano who enjoys singing with the Opera Carolina Chorus as well as in various church choirs in the Charlotte area.  She is a member of "In The Mood" trio, which performs in the area.  Margaret loves teaching music to the babies and toddlers in the Musikgarten class!

Wendi Washington-Hunt

BMus from Arizona State University.  Wendi Washington-Hunt has been teaching piano and classical voice for over twenty years. She has performed with opera companies and orchestras from California to Maryland.   As guest soloist, she has appeared with Phoenix Symphony, Annapolis Symphony, Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Winston-Salem Symphony, and Baton Rouge Symphony, among others.  Wendi loves teaching voice to adults and older children as well as piano to beginners of all ages!

MM from St. Louis Conservatory of Music; BMus from Tulsa University.  Janice has enjoyed teaching students of all ages for over 20 years.  She has performed with Opera Carolina for the last 12 years as a chorus member and in small roles.  She frequently sings at churches in the Charlotte area.  Janice has recently helped form  "In The Mood" trio which performs in the area.

She is the percussionist with the Western Piedmont Symphony as well as the Principal Timpanist for the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra.  Stephanie enjoys teaching students of all ages!

BMus from Willamette University.  Alex has performed with several symphony orchestras in Oregon as well as various chamber music ensembles.  Alex Works at J.L. Smith & Company as Flute Sales Assistant where he works with flutists of all skill levels to pair them with their dream instruments. Alex enjoys sharing his passion for music with students of all ages. When teaching, Alex helps students build a foundation of good habits such as proper breathing, posture, and focused slow practice. With these tools, his students can avoid a myriad of technical issues and focus on what matters.  Making music.
